A Better Choice for Soy Milk

Soy milk, made from soybeans, is a great alternative for those who can't consume dairy products, or, like me, don't like the taste of cow's milk. It's still a great source of calcium and protein, tends to be lower in calories than traditional skim milk, and lasts longer once opened. Unfortunately, as of 2010, 93% of soybeans are now genetically modified (also known as GMO). Genetically modified foods have been suspected to cause health problems and the FDA does not approve the safety of engineered foods. With this in mind, I've been learning to take my coffee without soy milk, as most coffee shops carry soy milk that is made from GMO soybeans, and I've been researching and reading packages to find a brand that doesn't use GMO beans. Viola! Found it! 8th Continent. Ironically, it's the brand of soy milk I started drinking years ago before switching to a more readily available brand that offered a unsweetened option. I was excited to find this in my local grocery store, along side the other major brands.
